The argument of Messi vs Ronaldo is never ending and it looks like Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t interested in making any attempts to end it either.
In a recent interview, the Portuguese claimed he is the best player in the football history. The star has five Ballon D’or titles to back it up, however, unluckily for him – his nemesis Lionel Messi has five himself.
The Euro 2016 winner said: “You will go and say that I have a big head, but when you’re at the top, it’s normal that you’re criticised. … I am the best player in history, in both good and bad times.”.
The bold claim puts him ahead of the likes of Messi, Pele and Diego Maradona in his pecking order.
Nevertheless, Barcelona director Josep Vives has no qualms to ridicule Ronaldo‘s claims as he names Messi as the best ever.
Vives said: “Respect to the Ballon d’Or and to Cristiano Ronaldo. But here at the Camp Nou, we can see the best player in history every 15 days, which is Messi.”
The two fierce competitors have dominated the world football for a decade now with ten Ballon D’or titles among them. Not only individually, the duo played huge roles in eight Champions League winning campaigns and top goal-scoring charts in Spain and Europe.
Consequently, there’s no doubt they are two best footballers in the world right now, if not in the history. But it’s difficult to pick out a particular player courtesy of their similar achievements at club level.
Internationally, Cristiano Ronaldo has a continental medal to his name to Messi’s none. Still, the Argentine won a Golden Ball in 2014 World Cup further showcasing his influence for his national team.
